Hestercombe Gardens are running their ever popular Spooky Spells Halloween Trail from
Saturday 21st – Sunday 29th October. You can follow their trail and create your own magical spell.  Don’t forget to step inside the wizarding bookshop hidden in the gardens and find your way through the whispering woods. Trail: £1 per child I Normal admission applies.

Also, on Friday 27th October at 7pm Hestercombe Gardens are offering a stargazing evening… you can join the experts from the Somerset Levels Stargazers for an introduction to astronomy and a chance to explore the night sky and locate the stars using telescopes and binoculars. Forde Abbey & Gardens

There is lots of Halloween Half Term fun at Forde Abbey… you can try your hand at pumpkin rolling this October as Forde Abbey celebrates the very best of what’s in season. Pick a home grown pumpkin to suit your size and style and have a go!

You can also join them for a spine tingling week of Halloween fun in the grounds of this 900 year old Abbey…explore their haunted trail & take part in all manner of spooky happenings that are sure to get your pulse racing.Just be prepared for a few unexpected guests…

Running from the 21st – 29th October, between 10am – 4pm

Normal admission prices apply – £10 adults, and £5 for children under 15. Under 5’s go free.



Quince Honey Farm

Visit this October half term for some spooky fun!

There will be a full day of activities including a guided tour of BeeWorld, Beekeeping demos, honey tasting, as well as the chance to cuddle some creepy crawlies if you dare! Join in with some Witch Crafting and some Spooky Fun in the Play Hive; and don’t forget to try some ghoulishly delicious homemade treats in the café. You can visit anytime between 21-27 Oct and get a free return pass to be used this Oct Half term!



Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens

The family fright nights at Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens offer young families the perfect way to join in the Halloween spirit (fancy dress encouraged ) in a fun and not too frightening way.

The 30 acre garden is magically lit throughout to provide the perfect spooky background for this unique event. Theatrical up lighting combined with candle lit pathways, create the shadowy nooks and corners, for costumed characters to suddenly spring from.

Spooky Fun activities are spaced around the garden paths (plan on the website ) and include :-

  • Free spooky face painting,
  • Live spider and snakes shows in the main pavilion ( hold a tarantula if you dare ) ,
  • Fire eaters,
  • A witches coven where sweets are given out,
  • A scary scars station where you can have a free horrible make over,
  • A ghost story area,
  • Spooky dance shows…a giant spider…a children’s disco…twitch the witch and her slimy dip… AND don’t miss the Tunnel of Terror!

In addition the restaurant is open for suppers and hot drinks, as well as a BBQ, the shop offers early Christmas shopping, and it will be SNOWING AT THE ENTRANCE every night.

The gardens are open from 10am the lights go on at dusk, the activities start at 4,30pm the gardens close at 8.30pm.

The ticket price includes entry to the nearby Swannery and Children’s Farm. It is recommended that families visit the Swannery and Farm (open from 10 am ) before going over to the Gardens for the evening fun.

There’s plenty of infectious fun to be had this October half term at Brunel’s SS Great Britain…

Inspired by crew’s tales of Victorian injuries, kids can terrify their mums and dads with impressive prosthetics and special-effect makeovers. Explore the ship and meet other grotesque passengers with sinister scars.

Meet the ragged Victorians… (Included in the price of admission) 10am – 5.30pm, Saturday 28 – Sunday 29 October

Bump into the Ragged Victorians, unsavoury characters of the lower classes, including a policeman, dock worker, fisherman’s wife and even a rat catcher accompanied by his live rats.

Step on board after dark for spooky ship…various times, Saturday 28 – Sunday 29 October £9 – £14 (plus booking fee) book via Bristol Old Vic.

Settle in for a good, old-fashioned Victorian fright-fest this Halloween with Spooky Ship. Follow a ghoulish guide and navigate the nooks and crannies of the 174-year-old ship; watch out for characters lurking in the shadows, hoping to share their terrible tales.

Climb the rigging…12pm – 5pm, daily until Tuesday 31 October £10 per person

Go Aloft! Become a true sailor and climb the huge mainmast. Brave souls can ascend the rigging to a viewing platform at over 26m above ground level and even step out over the harbour on the main yard.

Halloween Trail at Yeovil Country Park – Friday October 27th 11.00 – 14.00pm

Experience blood curdling Ninesprings Halloween trail this horrifying half term…follow the pumpkin markers through the haunting woods and collect the missing letters from the witches spell. Help her complete the wicked spell to conjure up a prize.This is a self- led trail and there is an adventurous pushchair/short trail available.

Turn up anytime between 11.00am – 2.00pm. Last entry at 2.00pm. The trail takes approx. 1 hour to complete.

Wild Place Bristol

Are you ready for a Spooktacular Halloween at Wild Place Project this October Half-Term?  From the 21st – 29th October Wild Place Project is getting supernatural!

Meet the Witch of Wild Place Project – join in her bewitching story time, with magical creatures, spell-casting, songs and loads of frightening fun. She’ll be roaming throughout Wild Place Project so make sure you don’t miss her!

Discover their magical creature enclosure – walk through Webb’s Brake and see if you can spot all of their mysterious creatures that are hiding up in the trees.

Explore the witch’s house – follow the spell-binding Barefoot Trail, make a marvellous mess in the witch’s kitchen, and find her cauldron for a spooky surprise.

Hallowe’en late night opening Immerse yourself in spine chilling stories throughout the darkened house this Hallowe’en, with ghoulish crafts and cobwebs galore, this isn’t for the fainted hearted. Pumpkin Trail Enjoy exploring off the beaten track to come across secret paths, the Bear’s hut and the ice house. Crunch leaves underfoot while you take in the natural beauty of the changing season. The pumpkin trail runs from Saturday 21 October to Tuesday 31 October, 11am – 4pm. This is a free trail, but normal admission fees apply. National Trust members free.

Castle Drogo, Exeter, EX6 6PB

This half-term you could take part in the hibernation trail which runs from Saturday 21 October until Sunday 29 October (£1, includes a prize). The trail is all about animals which hibernate over the winter and signs to spot them when they wake up.

Or you can take part in the crafty castle capers activity on the weekend of the 28 and 29 October, 11am-4pm. On Saturday 28 the craft activity will be clay modelling (£2).
