What’s on this Easter…

We love the Easter holidays. Spring is in the air, hopefully (!) we will have some lovely weather and the countryside is looking fabulous. There are some fantastic events to choose from locally… we’ve picked our favourite ones that we think you will love…

Forde Abbey, Chard


We would not want to miss this… an Alice & Wonderland themed Easter Egg hunt at the beautiful Forde Abbey. If you’ve never been, then this is the perfect excuse to visit the stunning property not far from Chard.

Why not get dressed up and take the whole family to this event on over the Easter weekend. The trail promises some amazing props, tea parties and secret doors to take you straight into fantasy land. There will also be Alice In Wonderland silhouette artwork by artist Laura Barrett on sale in the gift shop. Each egg hunter is guaranteed a chocolate prize.

Normal admissions to Forde Abbey apply.


Hestercombe Gardens


Hestercombe Gardens are beautiful all year, but we adore the colourful spring gardens which make the perfect setting for an Easter Egg hunt. As well as a chocolate treat, children will get to paint their own egg at the end of the trail. The trail is £1.50 and normal admissions apply.

On the 4th & 11th April you can also get involved in a Easter basket making workshop, where children can make their own eco-friendly basket out of recyclable materials. £2 per workshop, limited places are available.

Don’t forget to check out The Stables Café for some delicious treats or indulge with a roast lunch on Easter Sunday and Monday.

Hestercombe is open every day over the Easter holidays.

West Somerset Railway

How about getting out and about on West Somerset Railway this Easter Holidays? Always an exciting day for the little ones, experiencing the magic of a steam train ride. Over the Easter Holidays you can take part in an Easter Egg hunt while travelling on the journey finding clues at different stations along the way. The trail will be an additional £1 per person on top of the normal admission tickets.

Also, save the date of the 15th April as The Gruffalo will be making appearances on Minehead station at intervals throughout the day.  There will be lots of entertainment on the platform too including a helter skelter, bouncy castle, facepainting, an entertainer and crafts.

Train tickets are cheaper when booked in advance.


Secret World Wildlife Rescue, Highbridge


During their silver anniversary celebrations join the Secret Wildlife Rescue Centre in some of their many fun activities. The weekend kicks off on the 14th April, 2017 at 10:00am and finishes on the 17th April, 2017 at 3:00pm.

There will be talks on the animals from the experts, and encounters where you can get up close & personal as well as a wide range of activities including:

• Easter Treasure Hunt

• Fire walking (Saturday late pm)

• Axe throwing

• Face Painting

• Pie-Face Challenge

• Music, Bar & BBQ (Saturday late pm)

• Tombolas and games

• Food stalls


The Eggathon at Ham Hill Country Park, Yeovil


On Tuesday 11th April from 10.00am -14.00pm there will be a wide array of traditional Easter games to join in with at Ham Hill Country Park this year. You can start by painting eggs & decorating them, you can take part in an egg rolling competition, there will of course be an Easter egg hunt & lots more activities to entertain your little ones.

Diggerland, Cullompton


Visit Diggerland this Easter…the only place where kids can ride, drive and operate REAL diggers! Enjoy the views 50ft in the air on the Skyshuttle or go for a bumpy ride on the Groundshuttle. If you’re brave enough, take a spin or two on Spindizzy… maybe save that one for once your lunch has settled!

Knock down Skittles with a digger, play hook a duck with a digger or dig for buried treasure with a digger. Once you’re done with the diggers, you can enjoy the Go-Karts, the Razor Crazy Carts, the Mini Landrovers and so much more!

Diggerland is ample fun for all ages, there are height restrictions so check out the ride height chart via the Diggerland website before setting off.

This Easter, Diggerland is open from 10am until 5pm every day from Saturday 1st April until Sunday 23rd April 2017.

Court Farm, Weston-super-Mare


Court Farm are about to start their 29th season of opening their working farm as a visitor attraction.

This Easter visitors will be able to bottle feed lambs at 11.45 and 3 pm daily and watch a milking show at 11am daily.

With an abundance on outdoor space, loads of anaimals and a teashop this is a fab day out for all the family.


Bishop’s Palace, Wells


There’s a great range of family activities going on at Bishops Palace, Wells including:

Monday 3rd April – 11.00am-3pm -Nature Ninjas where you can visit the community garden for activities including pond dipping, minibeast hunting, seed sowing and a garden trail.

Friday 7th April –  10.30am-4.00pm Baskets & Bonnets where you can create Easter baskets, Easter bonnets or mosiac egg, as well as follow the Easter trail.

Friday 14th April – 10.30am – 3pm – Bouncing bunnies and chirpy chicks – a day of Easter themed family fun and your chance to create Bunny Masks, Easter Chick and Bunny Baskets along with their new Easter trail. Don’t forget to leave time for a trip to the new Dragon’s Lair play area too!


Clarks Village, Street


Located in the heart of Somerset, Clarks Village, has put together a cracking line-up of free activities for children and families, this Easter holiday – from 1 Saturday to 23 Sunday April 2017. Hop on down to Clarks Village for all of their Easter activities this holiday…

Chocolate Factory: 11am – 4pm, 7 Friday & 8 Saturday April – Clarks Village invites families to the gardens outside Radley and Thornton’s for Easter egg decorating in its craft gazebo, with a sweet trolley challenge: “Guess the number of sweets in the jar”. An egg-ceptional children’s entertainer will also be creating bubbles, juggling and giving four 15 minute acrobatic performances.

Knitted Hedgehog Trail – Make like a hedgehog and come out of hibernation, joining Somerset Wildlife Trust – one of Clarks Village’s Charities of the Year – guests are invited to an egg-stravagent trail of knitted hedgehogs hidden around the Village.When children find all 10 prickles (a group of hedgehogs), they will receive a chocolate reward from Lindt.

Prize draw Easter goodie bag – During the Easter holidays (1 – 23 April), Clarks Village will be asking shoppers to fill in a lucky postcard, to be in with a chance to win a Thornton’s Hamper, worth nearly £40.

Store window competition – Clarks Village springs into the season with its 90 shops, encouraging them to design their store windows for Easter with a selection of spring images and decoration, closing on 23 April.


Crealy Adventure Park, Exeter


The multi-award winning adventure park has a show stopping line up of events, activities and musical tribute acts over the Easter holidays, from Saturday 1st April to Monday 17th April.

On 2nd April Crealy launches Pop in the Park. Guests can enjoy live performances from musical tribute act favourites on selected Sunday’s throughout 2017. The first poptastic Sunday on 2nd April sees Adele, Bruno Mars and Gary Barlow tributes taking to the stage with Justin Bieber and Katy Perry among the tribute acts on Sunday 9th April.

As well as the new ride and event, Jungle Jim will amaze children as he causes a ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ at Crealy. With his world-class ventriloquism, Jungle Jim will be taking to the stage on Wednesday 5th and 12th April with an ‘egg’-ceptional comedy show which will have the whole family cracking up.

Over the bank holiday weekend Crealy will be giving away 10,000 free chocolate eggs across the park, as part of their biggest and best Easter egg hunt ever! Guests of all ages are welcome to follow the trail and solve puzzles that will help them discover the sweet treats.

National Trust

We really are spoiled for choice with the amount of National Trust properties we have in our area. For another year National Trust have teamed up with Cadburys with lots of Easter Egg hunts planned over the holidays.

This is our pick of the events not to be missed in the area.

Montacute House, Montacute


On the 14th, 15th and 16th April meet at the stables block to join in with the Easter Egg hunt around the grounds costing just £2. A stunning property if you’ve never been with some fun play areas and fantastic horse swings for the little ones!


Knighthayes Court, Tiverton


As well as the Easter Egg Hunt there are loads of eggciting activities going on at this Devon property, choose from making bird houses, bird kites, bird feeds and painting and decorating your own birds’ nests. Check on the website for which days different workshops are running throughout the Easter Holidays.



Barrington Court, Barrington


We love Barrington Court and can’t wait to go along to decorate our own colourful wooden Easter decoration. This event runs from 2nd April through to 17th April and cost £3. Over the Easter Weekend you can also join in the Egg Hunt for £2. Another great event running this Easter is the Den Building day on 4th April.


Lytes Carey, nr Somerton


Another chance to join in a Cadbury’s Easter Egg Hunt at a stunning property… we love the woodland walks here!

Castle Drogo, Exeter


Get down to this amazing castle on April 4th to join in with Crafty Castle Capers, lots of fun filled crafty activities will be on throughout the day. There is always lots to do for children at Castle Drogo, including trails and orienteering and don’t miss the Bunty house and secret garden which will be full of spring flowers – primroses, crocuses and daffodils! Sounds like a lovely family day out.



Llanhydrock, Bodmin


As well as the Cadbury Easter trail on throughout the Easter holidays visit Llanhydrock for lots of family fun, including a range of cycling trails and a fantastic adventure play park next to the café.
