Loose Reins owners Marc and Michelle have created an authentic pioneer-style holiday destination in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Dorset. Offering beautifully hand crafted and fully equipped pioneer lodges and ranch cabins, as well as top quality Western riding facilities, Loose Reins is a superb destination for anyone seeking to leave the daily grind behind and put the handbrake on the pace of life for a while.
Horsemanship and Western Riding play an important role at Loose Reins with lessons, trail riding and horsemanship workshops available. They can cater for children of around 12 years (5’ tall) and upwards for actual lessons and those under this age can have a ‘have a go fun session’ in the arena or off the leading rein depending on ability.
They also have two Shetland ponies for fussing over and one can be ridden by very small children on the lead rein.
If you prefer to put your feet up, you could just relax on the front porch, watch the horses graze, listen to bird song or watch the buzzards circling lazily over the trees. Time goes slow in Loose Reins country, and when the day melts into the evening you can grab a drink and sit by the fire, or stargaze for a while.
Sleeping up to six and set in generous grounds, the cabins and lodges have top quality furnishings, plumbing, electricity, fully-equipped kitchens, proper loos, hot showers, gas ovens, wood burners and outdoor fire bowls. All in all, it’s the most relaxing stay possible – you can discover your trail and connect with the wild in luxury and style.
A four night midweek break starts at £435 and a three night weekend break starts at £420.

Country Mummy Contributor Jess has stayed in a shepherd hut with Scamper Holidays with her young family….
“We had a wonderful time as a family. The views were amazing and the hut itself was really cosy, and we were more than warm enough in April. It was big enough for the 4 of us, and the children adored the time, it was a real magical experience. What a beautiful setting! So many stunning beaches to explore close by. It was a perfect place to stay, in an area that we were not familiar with. A wonderful holiday!”
