Ordinarily I would have a very long checklist of things that I would be looking for from a perfect family holiday. I would spend months researching and deliberating, ensuring that our chosen holiday ticked all of the ‘holiday happiness’ boxes.
This year, however, I am hoping for something a little different. I would be looking for our holiday to serve an additional purpose on top of all the sun, sand and smiles.
I would want the opportunity to not just tell my husband thank you for all that you do, but to show him as well…
Thank you for supporting me my entire adult life whilst I bounce from one excitable idea to the next – let me get you a cocktail (or 3) whilst we take in this spectacular setting and count our blessings.
Thank you for encouraging me on a daily basis – go and have some fun with your big girl, see her eyes sparkle in the sunshine. I’ll cuddle our baby and we’ll await your return.
Thank you for supporting me when I said I wanted to leave work & start Country Mummy. It’s now a year old and I couldn’t have done it without you. Have a nap, soak up some rays & relax.
Thank you for not allowing me to crumble when month after month, year after year, baby number 2 wasn’t quite ready to make an appearance. Enjoy some seaside cuddles with this long awaited gift whilst I take our big girl for a swim. Sit back & watch proudly as she fearlessly splashes in the waves.
Thank you for working so hard every single day for our family. I cannot explain how much I love our little unit. Take a load off, read a book and chill out by the pool.
Thank you for never batting an eye when you come home to zero dinner but a half decorated room. Let this perfect family holiday be a chance for you to be well fed for an entire week 🙂
Thank you for never complaining about your shoe box size wardrobe, and for understanding that a prop cupboard and a cocktail case are essentials in my life. On this perfect family holiday I promise you that I will not embarrass you by trying to return with an extra case.
Thank you for not obviously panicking when I said I wanted to start an online business, the fact that I am incapable of switching between sky, tv & dvd did not outwardly appear to fill you with fear 🙂 I hear they have loads of water sports here… go and blow off some steam.
Thank you for not laughing (out loud) when I tell people that skiing is on my hit list before I hit 35. I appreciate how funny the thought of me loose on the slopes must be to you. On this holiday it’s ok to laugh every time I fall over. I want you to have a break full of giggles.
Thank you for finding it endearing that I inadvertently make up my own lyrics to every single song, and then serenade you with them very loudly and very badly. On this perfect family holiday my gift to you is not to sing 🙂
Thank you for surprising me with my amazing cameras and encouraging my photography. Very little makes me happier than creating albums filled with our memories. On this perfect holiday I will capture lots of shots for us to treasure forever.
Thank you for bringing out the best in me. For loving the craziness in me. Let’s get dressed up, enjoy a yummy dinner and go for a walk on the beach.
Thank you for always encouraging me to bring the colour to our life, yet somehow, at the same time, never allowing me to take us off the page. It must be tiring living with such a dreamer… enjoy this break and rest those eyes.
Thank you for helping me to become the mother I have always wanted to be. This competition entry is for you. This holiday would be for you… and me… and our little girl… and our new little one due in a matter of weeks. There is nobody else in the world that I would rather see the world with.
This is my entry to the Mark Warner Ambassador scheme in the creative writing category. What an honour it would be to represent such a fantastic family friendly brand.
