A massive hit for my little girl this Summer was her beautiful teepee , received from lovely local business Playful Little Places.
Little people, as a general rule, love dens – creating their own little spaces where they can tell secrets, play make believe and bring teddy, dolly, car, plane, snack, cutlery and, in Bella’s case, her actual kitchen sink into their own little world.
Like many parents, we are big fans of what the wonder of a sheet, pegs and some chairs can do, and over the last couple of years I have impressed myself with my design skills for these little fortresses, but there is something extra special and very convenient about these lovely little dens from this Devon based business.
They are a) very easily transportable, meaning it was no problem at all to take with us on our summer adventures (it folds down into a very compact 150cm x 10cm x 10cm) and b) it is far less time consuming to ‘secure the perimeters’ – it pops up in a matter of seconds and is ready to go for some make believe fun.
Bella was nearly 5 when we received the teepee and she has still got a good few of years of fun to be had from it yet. It is beautifully spacious, and both Mummy and Bella have spent lots of time tucked away inside the pretty canvas walls.
As a little girl who adores reading, I’ve lost count of the number of times over the past few months that Bella has asked me to put up her den so that she can take herself off, fill the space with books, literally close the doors and happily read her stories.
Since Country Mummy went live I have been approached by many lovely brands asking me to review various things, especially toys. Dolls houses, kitchens, bikes etc., but I nearly always say no, as normally Bella will have a variant of the toy and simply does not need another.
However, I approached Playful Little Places, not the other way around, and asked if they would like to work together. I found their beautiful site and knew that not only would Bella absolutely adore a little magical space of her own, but that in all likelihood this lovely local business would almost certainly be of interest to lots of other families as well.
What makes these teepees special is firstly their design. The Playful Little Places teepees have 5 poles and 5 sides… others will often only have 4. This allows for that extra bit of all important playing space.
Also, Rebecca, the clever lady who designs and makes these little dens, has a background in curtains and interiors and this shows in the way that she has worked with colour, texture and pattern. Rather than going for plain fabrics and adding applique characters Rebecca has chosen fabrics that help portray an imaginative story.
They are strong, durable and built to last for little ones to enjoy and play with for years. If you have a look on the Playful Little Places site and you will see all the gorgeous designs available to choose from, as well as all of the beautiful accessories including bunting, scatter cushions and pretty little aprons.
We have been running a special offer on Country Mummy for a few months now, where you can save 10% off these beautiful teepee’s, accessories and the teepee packages. This offer has been clicked and downloaded many times but I thought that in case anybody is stuck for a special Christmas present for their little ones this would be a fantastic gift, and will genuinely see them through from baby to fully fledged little person.
Now that the summer is over and the nights are drawing in, we have set up Isabella’s little hideaway under the stairs. I have draped some twinkly lights around the top and left a torch inside on the cushions for her to continue enjoying her little space throughout the winter before we bring it out again next year for lots more sun-shiny fun 🙂
