The beautiful Lower Keats Farm...

It’s no secret that as a family we love glamping… it combines all of the fun of camping with the luxuries of a 5* hotel.  All of the home comforts mean that bad weather doesn’t affect your break, & I don’t think you can find a much better way of experiencing the great outdoors without sacrificing luxury.

Earlier in the summer we visited the brand spanking new luxury glamping site at Lower Keats Farm in Axminster. We are always excited to see the personal touches that each site brings to the experience. In the case of Lower Keats Farm there are lots of standout touches…

The six luxurious canvas lodges are set in peaceful countryside in the beautiful Axe Valley adjacent to the River Axe and near to the Jurassic coastline - it is an absolutely beautiful spot. The views from the lodges are the kind of views that make you take a deep breath and allow you to feel very grateful for your lot.

These particular lodges are the most kitted out we have seen yet. Gorgeous beds and bedding, a lovely belfast sink, Chesterfield sofa, candles & blankets, toilet and walk in shower room with gorgeous smelling luxuries, board games, fizz on arrival and much much more.

What made this tented hideaway so special for our family of glampers was the little 2 burner hob tucked away at the back of the kitchen. No waiting for the stove to heat up to warm Penny’s milk or food…something that we were very grateful for when she was waking up before the birds started chirping (!) The instant hot water was also a very welcome treat...a quick and easy way to wash happy (but muddy) little ones.

Well thought out amenities such as that makes travelling with little ones so much easier. When we arrived they had the highchair, travel cot & fireguard all set up & ready for us to hunker down for the weekend.

Their honestly shop stocked beautiful homemade meals. We opted for the lasagne and the chilli with a BBQ on the Sunday and all of the food was delicious. You’ll also find in the shop all of your essentials so no need to worry if you have forgotten the milk. Don’t worry about packing tinfoil, cling film, tea towels or anything like that either… it is all included within the tent.

Every morning Bella wandered down to collect eggs, and as they have got a lovely little ‘borrow station’ in the shop she would also bring a skipping rope, game or book to back with her too. They even have lots of wellies in all different sizes if you forget your own :)

Other than a visit to Wildwood Escot on the Saturday morning we didn’t leave the site… not much keeps me away from new pubs to venture into for a Sunday lunch but we were very content little glampers enjoying the facilities and beautiful location of the farm. Roy’s parents came to visit us for the day on Sunday and we all enjoyed a BBQ in the sunshine, eating again more of the delicious food from the honesty shop.

As a digital detox they don’t come much better than at Lower Keats with the stove roaring away, chimney puffing, a bottle of wine, family board games and way too much yummy food. Gary & Linda couldn’t have been nicer, they make such an effort with the kids coming round and asking who would like to go and help feed the animals. Bella was able to bottle feed a lamb for the very first time and as our little sponge she absolutely loved listening to Gary and Linda talk to her about the animals on the farm.

Gary & Linda wandered down to see us of an evening to make sure everything was ok, answer any questions we might have on the area and to get involved with the family games people were playing in the meadow at the front of the tent. It was so lovely to see the little ones playing with each other whilst we sat back and relaxed on the large veranda, snuggled under a blanket.

This site has been a labour of love for both of them, and you can really tell that they have sat back and thought about all the little details that make a break like this so memorable. Go and have a look on their website for more information, including special offers :)
